About Blue Mounds

Blue Mounds is named because of the two hills that are the highest hills in Southern Wisconsin region, which look blue from certain distances away. Blue Mounds is located 25 miles west of Madison in Dane County near its border with Iowa County. Blue Mounds has a population of approximately 850 residents along with an area of 0.88 square miles within the city limits.

Blue Mounds offers many different recreational hot spots for those who live in the area, or those who are planning a visit. Blue Mound State Park is just north of the village and is open year round from 6 AM to 11 PM. On the highest point in southern Wisconsin, Blue Mound State Park offers spectacular views across all 20 miles of the park’s hiking routes. The park also offers a swimming pool and family campground for those who plan to have an extended stay in the park. Perhaps one of the most famous attractions in the state of Wisconsin, Cave of the Mounds is located on the east side of town and offers a one of a kind experience for all of their guests. The guided cave tour allows visitors to head down into the caves and explore a whole new world underground. This is a great experience for kids to learn about the world beneath our feet, as well as an experience for people of all ages to see something new.

If you’re looking to cool off in the summertime, the waterpark at the Deer Valley Lodge is a great way to beat the heat indoors. The park is open everyday from 8 AM to 11 PM and has multiple pools and a water slides to keep the kids busy. Children under 2 also get in for free making it a great place for the family on a hot summer’s day. For those winter months, plan a trip to nearby Tyrol Basin. The hill offers many different slopes for skiers and snowboarders of all different skill levels. From the Gentle Ben beginner run all the way up to the Double Diamond expert run, anyone can find a hill that matches their confidence level.
